Why Choose Breast Implant Removal or Replacement

  • There are many reasons why women choose to revisit their original breast implant decision. Here are some common scenarios:

Change in Aesthetics: Your initial implant size may no longer meet your preferences. Perhaps you desire a larger profile or wish to return to a more natural look.

Capsular Contracture: This occurs when scar tissue around the implant hardens and tightens, causing discomfort and shape distortion. Capsulectomy with implant replacement can address this issue.

Implant Rupture: While uncommon, implants can rupture, sometimes presenting with breast discomfort or shape changes. Replacement is recommended for safety reasons.

Loss of Breast Volume: Gravity, weight, pregnancy and age can take their toll, causing drooping even with implants. Replacement alongside an uplift can address this concern.

Dissatisfaction with Previous Results: Sometimes, the initial augmentation surgery may not have achieved your desired outcome. At our breast clinic in Newcastle, our trusted surgeon Rob can offer a fresh perspective and strategy.

FAQS

If you have a thickened capsule that makes the breast feel firm and uncomfortable, you may need the capsule removing to help with the symptoms of discomfort.

It is difficult to visualise what you will look like after implant removal as everyone is different. It is highly likely they won’t look the same as before they were originally put in.  One major factor is how much breast tissue you actually have, and how much you have in relation to the size of your implant. Some women are left with an excess of skin, and so opt for a breast uplift when the implant has been removed to reduce sagging of the breasts.

If your breasts have started to sag despite having implants, the degree of excess skin might appear more obvious once implants are removed. An uplift removes excess skin and lifts the breasts and nipples to create a more youthful appearing breast.

Some implant manufacturers will cover the cost of replacing an implant following breast augmentation if it is ruptured within the first 10 years. That means that they will provide a new implant free of charge, but there would still be costs to the hospital. It is useful to keep the record of your implants and register for any warranty that may be included.
